Why Content Creation Feels So Hard — and How to Make It Easier

Have you ever sat down to write something, a blog post, a product review, even just a short paragraph, and suddenly felt completely stuck?

You’re not the only one.

Content creation can feel surprisingly difficult when you’re first starting out with affiliate marketing. If you’re someone who didn’t grow up online, it can feel like trying to write in a whole new language.

Let me assure you: it’s not just you. It’s not because you’re “not good at this.” There are real reasons it feels hard, and better yet, there are simple ways to make it easier.

😕 Why Content Creation Feels So Hard at First

Let’s take a moment to talk about a few of the big struggles that trip up most beginners (myself included).

1. Perfectionism

This one sneaks in when you least expect it (and is a biggie for me).

You sit down to write and suddenly feel pressure to get it exactly right: the tone, the spelling, the structure. You worry about what people will think. You rewrite the first sentence ten times. And then? You give up.

Sound familiar?

Perfectionism tells you not to even try unless it’s going to be flawless. But the truth is, most helpful content is far from perfect, and readers are looking for connection, not perfection.

2. Comparison Paralysis

You look around at other blogs or YouTube channels and see polished, professional-looking content. Beautiful graphics. Catchy headlines. Fancy tools.

And you think:
“I could never do that.”

But here’s the thing: You’re seeing someone else’s chapter 20 when you’re just starting chapter 1. You don’t need to compete. You just need to begin.

3. Lack of Clarity

One of the biggest reasons beginners struggle with content is simply not knowing what to write about.

Should I post a product review? A personal story? A how-to guide?

Trying to do everything at once leads to doing… nothing at all. The key is to start with just a few simple types of content that are easy to create and build your confidence.

So, what can you do about it?

A Simpler Way to Create Content (Especially If You’re New or Over 50)

You don’t need a complicated content plan. You don’t need a professional background in marketing or tech. You just need a few repeatable formats that help people and feel natural to write.

I call this the Content Starter Map.  It’s perfect for beginners and late bloomers alike.

Here are the only three types of content you need to get started:

1. Personal Insight Posts

This is where you simply share your thoughts, experiences, or beginner journey. It could be:

  • “Why I chose [your niche] and what I’ve learned so far”
  • “3 things I wish I knew when I started affiliate marketing”
  • “What I struggled with most — and how I’m handling it”

These are powerful because they’re real. You’re not trying to be an expert — you’re just being helpful and human. And people respond to that.

2. Product Support Posts

Instead of trying to “sell,” you’re helping your readers understand a product. Think:

  • “How I use [product] in my daily life”
  • “3 things to consider before buying [product type]”
  • “Who [product] is best for — and who might want to skip it”

This builds trust because you’re offering honest insight, not hype. And trust leads to clicks.

3. Simple How-To or Tip Lists

You know more than you think you do. Sharing a few small, helpful tips can go a long way. Try:

  • “5 tips I use to stay motivated when writing content”
  • “How to write your first blog post in under 30 minutes”
  • “3 beginner tools I actually use (and one I regret buying)”

That’s it!

These are skimmable, useful, and easy to write, perfect for your audience and for you.

✍️ Try This: Your First Content Idea (Right Now!)

Let’s get you writing, no big decisions, no perfection, just do it.

Write a short post (3–5 sentences) about why you chose your niche or why you want to try affiliate marketing. Don’t worry about sounding professional. Just be honest.

You can use this as a blog post, a Facebook update, or even a short email. What matters most is that you’re building momentum and showing up as your real, relatable self.

No, don’t you dare put it off.  You will not do it after another cup of coffee, or after lunch, or before you go to bed.  You know you won’t.  Just do it now.  It’s only a few sentences.

I’ll start you off:

“Affiliate marketing seemed like an almost instant way to earn extra money, according to some people online. I started learning about it and soon discovered….

… or …

“Who knew that trying to decide what niche to get into for my affiliate marketing ‘adventure’ could nearly stop me in my tracks.  Here’s what I finally decided on and…

Make it your own voice, not mine.

Go ahead…

You can do it…
