Week 2 Challenge Completed!

Well!

I just submitted my pages for the week 2 contest a few hours before the deadline and….

I DID THE VIDEO!

Not sure why I am yelling that – it is not a particularly good video and I almost chickened out – but I DID IT!

The whole process took longer than I thought it would. Surprisingly, creating the lead magnet took the most time even though I had the outline done. I kept changing my mind on how to present the information. Finally, I used a trick I learned a while ago – write the opt-in page FIRST. This page has the main points I want to include in bullet form. So, once I had that done, finishing the lead magnet was much easier.

Next came creating the opt-in and thank you pages for the lead magnet. I used Contvertri to create these. I do have a WP theme that allows the creation of several different types of pages fairly easily but it does not have the flexibility I wanted so I choose to use the Convertri program. It had been a while since I have used it and they have been doing major updates so I had to get used to it again so… it took longer than expected.

I used AWEBER to create my list but have only the Welcome email done, so there is more to do there.

I ran a test and signed up to my own list (make sure you always do this, always) and realized when I received the email that I had forgotten to put the link to the lead magnet in it. OOPS. Had to correct that.

Anyway, it is DONE.

As the week progressed, I was keeping up on the Facebook page for the challenge and noticed that there were quite a few people for whom this week’s challenge was totally confusing.

I think this was due to 2 things:
1. There are quite a few people in the challenge who are completely new to setting up a website.
2. The organizers of the challenge did not, in my opinion, take that into account as much as they could have. Some assumptions were made that people would know how to connect the dots. Many did not and felt very lost.

That is where the Facebook group is great. People ask questions and those in the group who are more knowledgeable help out.

With that in mind, I realized that if I am to help people here as I would like to, I must be careful not to fall into that trap.

Therefore, this week, in addition to the challenge (I don’t know what that is yet so I may have to eat my words) I plan to create a Resources page and a Glossary of Internet Marketing Terms page.

That’s it for now.

I’ll be back tomorrow when I know what the week 3 challenge entails.
